A Busy First Day

First of all, Thank you for all your prayers. We have safely arrived in Kiev, Ukraine. After a few minor mishaps (delayed luggage, 2 hours in customs, etc), we made it to our apartment and made plans for our first Ukrainian meal...McDonalds! After a 20 hour trip over, we were both ready for some sleep. The next day was promising to be busy.

The next day was a VERY busy day. Neither one of us slept well. I guess the anticipation was getting to us. We left the apartment at 9.30 and arrived at the adoption center at 11. We looked at some pictures and the Center started making phone calls to get more information about our selection and to set up an appointment to meet our possible future child. After an hour, we left and started working on more paperwork (copies, notaries, etc).

Back and forth, back and forth across town on the busiest roads we have ever seen in our lives. People were driving in wrong directions on purpose, literally inches from bumpers and at 30 mph. They drove 5 cars wide in only 3 lanes and all the honking made even Dave's driving look tame! Then you add the pedestrians who WILL walk in front of your car doing 30 mph making you stop (even old ladies will run out in front of you...and we mean run!). These drivers will end up giving us both heart attacks before we even get our child! I am glad we are using taxis! The neat thing is that we have not seen one accident, yet.

We got back to the apartment at 7 pm. On a better note, Dave's luggage finally showed up at 9.30 last night, just in time to pack it for our 14 hour train ride to Sevostopal, Ukraine which is on the Black Sea. From what we understand, this is a favorite vacation spot for Europeans. We hope the train ride goes smoother than the taxi rides!

Please keep us in your prayers throughout these next few days as we go through the system of adoption. There are already some obstacles that we have to overcome, and we need a lot of prayer from everyone for Gods Will to be revealed. We will give you more details as we get them.

We love and miss you all.

Well it sure sounds like you guys are crazy busy. It's a whole new world when you get out of Kentucky, isn't it? :) It sounds like everything is progressing as expected for you. We will continue to look for your posts and keep you in our thoughts.

Love you!

Hey guys, it's nice to hear that you arrived safely. Candace, now you know why God gave you David....to prepare you for the crazy driving on your adoption trip ;).

I know it's hard when things aren't going as planned or you guys experience massive delays, etc but just remember....even the stressful moments can be a reminder of just how blessed you are to be in Ukraine to find your little angel. We can't wait to see the first pics!!

Love you guys!

Sounds like little has changed in the Ukraine since we visited in the 1990s. I'm praying for your health and stamina, for the right people to help you through the red tape, for the boys, and for your Ukraine Angel.

Well sounds like you have had an interesting journey already. We are anxious to meet your new little one. We spent Monday evening with Sammie and Bennett playing in the backyard at your house! Fun! We all had a good time and they seem to be doing well. Don't worry. God has hands that can care for us all, no matter the distance. Each time God brings you to our thoughts we say a prayer. Take care! We miss you!

Glad to hear that you received your luggage before you had to leave again. I am praying that you don't have too many more obstacles to overcome. Now that the adoption is in the works, I hope you will get some rest on the train. Sounds like you will need it. Everyone is praying for you.

Love,
Mom

Praise the Lord for a safe trip, and a busy (but productive) first day. I'm glad to hear that you are both healthy enough now to endure the stress and so glad we could help put that immune system to work right before your leaving (sorry again). I can imagine your excitement! I hope you can use the train ride to catch up on some sleep, talk to each other without being endlessly interrupted, and just BE... Just REST in the Lord. Soon enough it will be so busy again. Can't wait to hear more.

My friend Craig and I had special prayer for you today for safety, God choice for you, your confirmation of that choice, and the removal of any difficulties that may lay ahead on your path.

Our prayers for you foreshadow any other activity of the day. May God make his presence known to you.

Love, Dad Crowder
